PRESS RELEASE – 1 September 2015
New opportunities for women in Wealden
WayfinderWoman, a charity that supports women and young girls in the workplace have been celebrating after being awarded a grant from Wealden District Council towards their motivational conference for unemployed women.
Laura Murphy, the Chairperson of the charity said,” Women have particular issues that stop them getting into work or setting up a business. The grant from WDC, together with a small amount of funding from the National Lottery means that we can now help women get the confidence to enter the world of work.”
The free event called, “Working your way: building the foundations for women at work” will take place on Tuesday 22 September at the United Reform Church in Uckfield from 9.30 to 2.30. During the day participants will hear from motivational women who have overcome their own challenges in finding work, Swindells Accounting will give some pointers about the financial side of running a business and Caroline Hart will give women an energy boost with her session of laughter coaching. There will be advice tables to cover every aspect of work.
Laura added, “Regardless of your age, whether you’re a student, a young mum or an older woman; with no qualifications or a degree, it can be difficult
to motivate yourself when you’ve been out of the work place. So many people recognize the importance of an event like this that they’ve gone out of their way to help. Food for Comfort for instance is giving their time freely to provide lunch. In the afternoon local employers Brewers and Freedom Leisure have volunteered to be there, Edeal and Lets Do Business will be on hand for those who want to find out more about setting up a business. We’ll have people who can talk about volunteering, training, apprenticeships and CV writing. It’s all designed to build women’s self-confidence, motivation and work readiness.”
To take part in the event participants must book their place by emailing email@example.com or by phone 0796 957 2964. For those who are signed on their Jobcentre adviser can help with their booking. Lunch is provided.
