Community Ambassador Job Description

Job Title

Part time Community Ambassador [15 hours per week at £12 to £15/ hour DOE]

Thanks to funding from the National Lottery, we are recruiting a part-time Community Ambassador to manage this 15-month project.  The project aims are to:

  • generate activities that improve women’s physical and mental health
  • build confidence and leadership skills so women can address societal barriers
  • tackle the provider gap where women are slipping through the net, engaging with them at an early stage with the aim of preventing them from developing more complex needs
  • build a more supportive community regardless of gender

These project aims will bring women together across the community, supporting women to reach their potential, and strengthen relationships between different established groups.

It is anticipated that this role will be for a period of up to 15 months but may be extended depending on the success of the project and further funding.  There is flexibility around the hours and rate depending on the candidate and their experience.

The Purpose of the role

The purpose of this role is to assist in the organisation and running of a series of community activities.  Based at our Hub in Highlight House, St Leonards Rd Eastbourne, the post holder will work with the existing team and other individuals and groups to organise new community activities such as coffee mornings, support groups, walking groups, and well as develop and grow existing ones which include our Work and Wellbeing Day and our biggest annual fundraising event Pier2Peer.

The Community Ambassador will network locally to increase the charity’s reach particularly with hidden groups such as the Muslim community. To identify women who could take a more active involvement in their communities by referring them to the charity for additional support, and encourage local businesses to engage with their communities thus supporting their social corporate responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of this role are:

  1. Plan and administer all the functions required for the project
  2. Plan and deliver a communications and promotion plan for the projects’ activities.
  3. Lead on social activities or identify appropriate leaders for these, schedule, and promote the activities by working alongside the Hub Managers, the Charity’s Chair, Trustees and volunteers
  4. Be available via the Hub to liaise with the team, any beneficiaries or external organisations, and other key roles within the Charity.
  5. Liaise with local business leaders and community groups to help all beneficiaries and support the Charity’s aims and objectives as stated in the 5-year business plan.
  6. Maintain accurate financial and monitoring records in a safe, secure manner and present these to the Trustees on a regular basis.
